Course Description

This program will be a lecture.

For the first time, orthodontists are able to visualize the alveolar housing anatomy for an individual tooth, through CBCT.  The alveolar housing cannot be properly visualized with standard 2D radiographs. When properly slicing CBCT scans, it becomes abundantly clear that the alveolar housing anatomy not only varies between  individuals, but can also vary between different segments of the same patient's arch. This presentation will discuss why and how the alveolar housing anatomy should be a consideration when planning treatment for our orthodontic patients.

Learner Outcomes

Following this program, participants should understand

  • How to use the alveolar housing anatomy to improve long-term orthodontic outcomes.
  • How with proper CBCT slicing technique, accurate visualization of the alveolar housing can be achieved.
  • How 2D radiographs and cephalometric analysis do not properly allow for the visualization and measurement of the alveolar housing.
