This program will be a lecture.
3D Imaging such as CBCT is quickly becoming standard diagnostic imaging in all areas of dentistry. This course is designed to familiarize each participant with the fundamentals of cone beam computed tomography technology, radiation risks, legal responsibilities and interpretation as well as newer 3D imaging modalities and AI technologies that are entering or have entered the dental field. Clinical applications in the areas of implantology, endodontics, surgery, orthodontics, periodontology, and pathology will be discussed with numerous case examples. The course will provide a review of maxillofacial anatomy in 3D as well as review common radiographic pathologies and how to evaluate and review a CBCT.
Learner Outcomes
Upon completion participants will understand how CBCT works, the applications of CBCT for diagnosis and treatment in a dental practice and have a better understanding of maxillofacial anatomy in a 3D CBCT as well as an understanding of newer emerging technologies. Participants will also gain an introductory interpretative diagnostic knowledge of common pathologies found in CBCT imaging as well as how to review and evaluate a CBCT volume.
- Explain the basic technology of cone beam CT, associated radiation risks and the role of 3D in imaging of the maxillofacial region as well as newer 3D imaging technologies entering the dental field.
- Discuss the various technological features and legal ramifications that should be considered with CBCT.
- Recognize and describe the pertinent anatomy of the maxillofacial region in 3D.
- Understand the 3D selection criteria, interpretation basics and applications for CBCT along with potential incidental findings.

Registration, Refund and Cancellation policies
All registrations must be done online at learn.llu.edu. At-the-door registration is not advisable as the online registration process must still be performed by the participant. Courses are canceled or confirmed by Loma Linda University School of Dentistry two weeks prior to course date. Please register early to avoid course cancellations. All dental courses are approved for continuing education credit on an hour-for-hour basis by the California State Board of Dental Examiners and the Academy of General Dentistry, up to a maximum of 8 educational units per day. Please refer to the course information for the number of units.
